Exoplanet GJ 367b: Astronomers Discovered a Planet Made of Metal
Astronomers have discovered a planet that is made mostly of metal, Exoplanet GJ 367b. Though it is only 75 per cent as big as Earth (approx.), it is significantly denser. GJ 367b revolves around a red dwarf star, Gliese 367. It is within 31 light-years from Earth. The star is so close to the planet that it only takes 7.7 hours for the planet to complete one orbit. This means that the planet is very hot. It is assumed that GJ 367b’s surface temperature is somewhere in the range of 1,500 degrees Celsius and 2,732 degrees Fahrenheit.
GJ 367b is the densest planet ever discovered by astronomers. It has a density of almost 8 grams per cubic centimetre, which is comparable to that of iron. According to this, the planet is primarily composed of iron, with a thin layer of rock covering its surface.
