Threads App Becomes Fastest Growing App in History, Hits 100 Million Users in Just 5 Days

Meta launched Threads via Instagram’s latest social media app on July 5, 2023. It gained over 100 million users within 5 days.

According to the publication Semafor, a lawyer for Twitter delivered a letter to Mark Zuckerberg alleging that Meta had “systematically and willfully” misappropriated Twitter’s trade secrets in the development of Threads. Twitter was not immediately available for comment, and Reuters could not immediately verify the Semafor report.

Meta denied the allegations, saying that no one on the Threads engineering team is a former Twitter employee. The company also said that they developed Threads independently of Twitter and that it does not use any of Twitter’s proprietary code or technology.
