Samsung Unveils the World’s First HDR10+ GAMING Title: The First Descendent

Samsung has unveiled the world’s first HDR10+ GAMING title, “The First Descendent”, which it has developed in partnership with NEXON. The game is set to be revealed at Gamescom 2023

HDR10+ GAMING makes games look and feel better. It does this by showing more colors, making things look brighter or darker in the right places, and making sure the brightness is just right.

It’s made especially for gaming and makes games react faster than other similar technologies. It also changes how things look in the game, like the lighting and the surroundings, to make it seem more real.

The release of “The First Descendent” is really important for HDR10+ GAMING. It’s the first game to use this new way of making games look amazing, and it’s a sign that more games will do this too.

It will be the first gaming title to feature the HDR10+ GAMING standard created by HDR10+ Technologies LLC.  Samsung co-founded HDR10+ Technologies LLC in 2018. The HDR10+ ecosystem has grown to 155 partners and over 7,000 certified devices. It is a free alternative to Dolby Vision, which is a proprietary HDR format.

Exciting isn’t it? Let’s see what HDR10 plus gaming actually is.

What is HDR10 Samsung?

HDR10+ GAMING or HDR10 Samsung is an open, royalty-free dynamic metadata format that enhances the gaming experience by providing deeper contrast, richer colors, and balanced brightness.

It is designed specifically for gaming, with lower latency than other HDR formats. HDR10+ GAMING can dynamically adjust the HDR metadata to match the changing conditions of the game, such as the lighting and the environment.

Features of HDR10+ GAMING

Here are some of the key features of HDR10+ GAMING:

  • Dynamic metadata: HDR10+ GAMING uses dynamic metadata, which means that the HDR signal can be adjusted to match the capabilities of the display. This ensures that the game looks its best on any display.
  • Low latency: It has lower latency than other HDR formats, which means that there is less delay between the action on the screen and the response of the controller. This can be important for competitive gaming, where every millisecond counts.
  • Support for VRR: It also supports variable refresh rate (VRR), which helps to prevent screen tearing and stuttering. This can provide a smoother and more enjoyable gaming experience.
  • Wide color gamut: HDR10+ GAMING has a wider color gamut than standard HDR formats, which can make the game look more vibrant and lifelike.
  • Deeper contrast: This technology can produce deeper blacks and brighter whites, which can make the game world look more realistic and immersive.

Now the question arises which devices support HDR10+ GAMING?

Well, it is supported by a growing number of TVs, monitors, and consoles. Some of the popular devices that support HDR10+ GAMING include:

  • Samsung TVs with the HDR10+ GAMING logo
  • Sony TVs with the HDR10+ logo
  • LG TVs with the Dolby Vision logo
  • Xbox Series X and Series S consoles
  • PlayStation 5 console
  • Nvidia GeForce RTX 30-series graphics cards

The first open beta test of “The First Descendent” game will start on September 19. Gamers across the globe will be able to hop onto the open-beta test and experience gaming like never before.
